2012 Wedding Trends

As a graphic designer who has been in the wedding invitation industry for more than eight years, I have seen my share of trends. This season, Weddings are all about the colour purple!

Purple has been popular in high fashion, home accessories and now seeps down into wedding styles as seen in modern and bold damask prints, silk ribbon, and wax seals. “Regal and mysterious, purple is a glorious yet very complex colour, preferred by very creative and eccentric types,” states Pantone’s Book – A guide to communicating with colour. Commonly paired with black, grey or cream, this bright colour has an everlasting punch of style and class that can be used throughout the season.

Destination weddings are still prominent with Calgary brides wanting to celebrate their special day with immediate friends and family. Small weddings call for a more fun, casual yet intimate affair. The ticket design / passport design has been a great way for these brides to set the stage for their destination adventure.

Vintage style and old fashion flair has become new again. Convey this aesthetic with bold lace patterns and damask prints, as well as custom wax seals. These seals finish the invites off with a bang! Everyone wants their own custom seal!!

Portrait wedding invitations have also made an impact on 2012 trends. More couples are having engagement photos done and want to bring this professional piece into their invitations. Sepia toned or black and white photos carry through a modern, romantic theme and can be used with invite writing right on the photo, or with a vellum overlay. Wedding invitations with photographs have a personal, custom flair that speaks true to guests.
